The language of consultants

In our practice, we encounter a wide range of consultants. Some of these individuals are more colorful than others. Over the past few years, I have been documenting the lingo, sayings, and pearls of wisdom. I call this the “language of consultants”.

Some of the items on the list are serious. Some are just plain wacky. Send me your favorites and I will add them to the list.

Sayings

Jumping with a parachute is much healthier.

Drinking from a fire house.

Are you pitching to where I am swinging?

Are you buying a drill or a hole?

Partners in the process.

That person is not a touchstone.

Vertical integration.

Align business with customer.

Think deep and plan well.

Islands of information.

Consultants are not in the forest so presumably they can see well.

Communication addiction.

Speak truth to power.

Choice not chance determines destiny.

Light at the end of a tunnel, problem is it’s attached to a train.

I dont want to hear about the labor pains. Just show me the baby.

Score the runs to win the game.
